Absentee Voting Information
Registered voters in New Madrid County who are unable to vote at their polling place on Election Day may qualify to vote absentee either in person or by mail in accordance with Missouri election law.
Absentee voting begins six weeks prior to each election.
Reasons to Vote Absentee
Missouri voters may vote absentee for one of the following reasons:
- Absence from the jurisdiction on Election Day
- Illness or physical disability
- Caring for a person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability
- Religious belief or practice
- Employment as an election worker, first responder, healthcare worker, or law enforcement officer
- Incarceration while retaining voting eligibility
- Participation in Missouri’s address confidentiality program
In-Person Absentee Voting
Eligible voters may vote absentee in person at:
- New Madrid County Clerk’s Office
- 450 Main Street
- New Madrid, MO 63869
Office Hours:
Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
No-Excuse Absentee Voting
Any registered voter may vote absentee in person beginning the second Tuesday prior to Election Day without providing a reason.
Absentee Voting by Mail
Voters may request an absentee ballot by mail by completing an absentee ballot application and returning it to the New Madrid County Clerk’s Office or through online submission.
Missouri absentee ballot applications are available in the **resource section at the bottom of this page** or by visiting the website for the Missouri Secretary of State.
- NOTE: The fillable form will only show the option to "save" once information has been typed and the "three dots icon" in the top right is clicked. Proceed with completing the application prior to saving. Once saved, the Election Authority will be notified that a request has been submitted.
Requests for mailed absentee ballots must be received by the County Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday before the election.
Returning Your Absentee Ballot
Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the New Madrid County Clerk’s Office before polls close at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
Certain absentee ballots returned by mail may require notarization under Missouri law. Please see the "Absentee Voting Instructions" document below for further information.
Voter Identification Requirements
Missouri voters are required to present an acceptable form of identification when voting. Acceptable identification includes:
- Missouri driver license or non-driver ID
- U.S. passport
- Military ID
- Other government-issued photo identification
